RSSDI is the largest organization of diabetes health care professionals and researchers in Asia. Currently, we have more that 5500 life members from across the country representing 29 Indian States and Union Territories. Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India was registered under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 by the Registrar of Societies, Delhi Administration vide Certificate No. s 5480 of 1972-73 dated July 29, 1972 at Delhi.
Every year, RSSDI organizes a national conference which not only provides a platform for its members to listen to the leaders in the field of diabetes from within the country as well as from abroad but also to interact among themselves, exchange knowledge and ideas. Annual conferences of RSSDI have been regular feature for last 40years and are very well attended.
RSSDI is also actively involved in diabetes awareness programs which focus on creating awareness about various aspects of diabetes among diabetes patients and their families and population at large.
RSSDI has nationwide presence thru its fourteen state chapters. All state chapters carry on the work of RSSDI at state and local level. In addition, these chapter carry out independent activities including CMEs for member physicians, local research grants, and awareness programs for public as well as diabetes patients.
RSSDI state chapters have regular academic activites including regular scientific meetings, CMEs, annual conferences at local/state level providing an easily accessible platform for their members to update, interact, discuss and learn more about the recent developments in diabetes, thereby empowering them to provide better care for diabetes patients.
RSSDI regulary publishes a newsletter, both in print and electronic format, which is mailed to each and every member of RSSDI. RSSDI newsletter serves as an important link between the national body and its membership to keep the members informed of various activities, research grants and educational initiatives.
RSSDI celebrates WORLD DIABETES DAY every year at multiple locations across the country. A number of activities are conducted on World Diabetes Day including public awareness programs, diabetes health talks, symbolic walks to fight against diabetes, diabetes detection camps, release of balloons, blue lighting of monuments etc.
IJDDC- the International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries, is the prestigious indexed publication of RSSDI and is an important resource of research work done in the field of diabetes in India.
RSSDI runs a one year Certificate Course in Diabetes thru its accredited centres to provide participants with the skills necessary to provide appropriate diabetes care to patients with Diabetes Mellitus.
RSSDI funds research proposals from Indian Scientists, interested in conducting research in the field of Diabetes Mellitus. For providing research grants, RSSDI invites proposals from Indian scientists, interested in conducting original research in the field ofdiabetes mellitus.Furthermore, limited grants are also available for the students of medical colleges for smaller projects

RSSDI is actively involved in updating the knowledge and skills of physicians. RSSDI TEXT BOOK OF DIABETES MELLITUS is one such endeavour of bringing the latest knowledge on various aspects of diabetes, especially Indian context, to the physicians and primary care practitioners. First edition of the book was published in 2002 and reprinted in 2007. The second edition published recently and has two volumes full of recent advances in the field of diabetes care.
